Southern Comfort

Since my senior year of high school, I have been actively involved with 2 hospice organizations in Austin and Odessa, Texas.  In Austin, I have been a volunteer for 3 years, visiting patients weekly. I play board games, take patients on walks, and help them with daily activities. I wrote this paper for a creative nonfiction class to demonstrate how working with these patients has changed my outlook on life and medical care, as well as what impact it may have on my future medical career.

Dandelion Meadow

Tightrope

I also wrote this paper for my creative nonfiction class, with the prompt: Create a dialogue between your present and your former self. I wrote this piece to convey my evolution as a person and to express how I feel towards who I was as a younger child. This piece in particular sharpened my skill for writing a moving piece in a short space.

Man Walking Through Passage

Divine Intervention (12th Floor)

This play was written for my creative writing class and documents an interaction between a man with suicidal thoughts and a stranger, both of which are stuck on an elevator. Adam and Emmanuel both represent characters from the Bible, with the latter being God himself. It was written to also open a conversation about how people interact in a time when people are focused on their phones and own personal struggles.
